Patricia Katopes
In 2011, Patricia Katopes began a new chapter in her life. After 15 years of marriage, she found herself a single mother of two children. Inspired by her love of all things creative and her passion for baking, she decided to pick up the whisk and start her own business, Patty Cakes Cupcakes. She held fast to the belief that if you "Do what you love, do what you're good at, and allow the rest to fall into place," things would turn out for the best. At an early age, Katopes had the curiosity for learning how to bake. She took classes as a child and decided that cake decorating was her favorite. After graduating with a degree in journalism, Katopes studied two years towards a masters in fine art from Georgia State University. Her educational foundation gave her a strong creative base with which to pursue her passions. Now, she continues to explore her creativity through her business, providing top-quality cupcakes and a sense of community to sweet-toothed customers all over Atlanta. On a whim, Katopes wanted to test her skills against the best in the business. She auditioned for Cupcake Wars in January of 2012 and was accepted for Season 6. After battling against more experienced bakers, all of which were judged by a panel of experts, Katopes was declared the winner of The Food Network Cupcake Wars episode 8. Her show aired on August 5th, 2012 at 8pm. As the victor, Katopes received $10,000 along with showcasing her winning creations at Wildaid black-tie gala held in San Francisco, May 2012. Katopes is also hoping to compete in the upcoming season of Cupcake Champions, which pits sixteen Cupcake Wars winners against each other for a chance to be named the Ultimate Cupcake Champion. The single winner will receive $50,000 and showcase his or her creations at a high-profile event. Her success serves as an ideal catalyst for her continued growth as a baker and business owner. She has recently added actress and spokesperson to her resume, booking an AT & T commercial on her third audition! Currently, she lives in Marietta, Georgia with her daughter, Katherine (16), and her son, Michael (11). A talented artist with a discerning eye, Katopes continues to explore her passions for interior design and canvas painting.
